Grounded in her TLJ No. 02 article Stress & Law: How to Lawyer Unwellness Begins and What are its Roots and expanded with a candid, solutions-focused discussion, this session goes beyond awareness. Karen breaks down the systemic forces that drive burnout, anxiety, and addiction in the trial bar, and delivers a practical framework for sustainable wellness that doesn’t ask lawyers to simply “meditate more.” This is an honest conversation the legal profession needs to have to learn about:
- The specific stressors that make plaintiff’s trial work uniquely high-risk for mental health struggles
- Why the legal profession’s culture of toughness actively prevents attorneys from seeking help
- How to recognize burnout in yourself and your colleagues before it becomes a crisis
- Practical, realistic wellness strategies built for the demands of active litigation
- What firm leaders can do to create a culture where mental health is treated as a professional asset, not a liability
